AFC Totton vs. Frome Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, ponders on a clash with the high-flying Stags.

Totton away was the Robins’ very first fixture on the road in the Southern League back in 2009 and a decade-and-a-half later, events come full circle at Snows Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Any fears that Danny Greaves’ charges would be ring-rusty after three weeks without a match were quickly dispelled in that hard-fought victory at Winchester, but they will be severely tested against a side pushing Merthyr hard for the title.

The Stags ended something of a slump on Saturday, having gone three games without a win, they pulled-off a comeback victory of their own thanks to late goals against nine-man Gosport which extended their unbeaten home record.

One of a number of stand-out performances at Winchester was that of midfield dynamo Alex Monks and Tuesday will bring up the milestone of his 200th appearance in a Frome shirt.

Now in his SEVENTH season with the club, he has probably not played more consistently well than in the recent post-Marlow revival and will relish the opportunity of attempting to put a dent in big spending Totton’s title tilt.

Many regard this game as a bit of a free hit for the Scarlet Runners, but no other team in the division has taken more points from their last half dozen contests. Two months ago, supporters would have dreaded this fixture. Now, many are looking forward to it!
