Bashley 1-3 Frome Town

Sam Teale’s own goal set back lead to a well-fought victory in Hampshire.

Goals from Duru, Gould and Drew clinched the second victory in a row for the Robins, their first on the road this season.

After a three-nil delight for Danny Greaves’ men in the season opener, the Robins head down south with whom Bashley hosted our first away trip of the season.

An unchanged 11 and only one were swapped on the substitutes' bench, with Mike Baker coming in for an unavailable Harris Feltham.

It wasn’t the start Frome had expected with Bashley totally in control, which led to their only goal of the game. The attack from the hosts was too much for Teale as his deflection from a shot trickled into the back of the net, Phillips wasn’t able to stop the ball in time.

A drinks break was taken roughly 25 minutes in, with some stern work said by Greaves, which turned the players into another gear. The game flipped on its head and all the momentum switched to the visitors.

This resulted in the first goal for the Robins, coming from the Nigerian, David Duru. The former Cribbs forward was able to tuck home his first goal for the club with Harry Lucas playing a driven ball into his feet. Duru saw an open net in front of him with no chance of missing. A deserving equaliser.

Frome only needed ten minutes to score their second of the game. Throughout pre-season, Maidment used his strength in his arms to full effect, practising his throw-ins, and it paid off with a goal. His throw in from the left side made the Bash defence uneasy and scrambled to get the ball out of the box. However, Drew was able to find a loose ball and smash the ball into the back of the net, gaining the lead for the first time in the game.

Half-time was fast approaching with the Robins cruising into half-time with the lead in their palms at the break. A late yellow card for Hopkins for arguing with the assistant referee.

The second half was not short of domination from Frome. Just one goal came in the final 45, but the control and momentum of Greaves’ men kept the Bashley attack at bay.

Plenty of set pieces were haunted by the home side’s defence, with Hopkins’s threading free kick from range making sure that Thomas in goal waste going to spill any of the chances given to the Frome attack.

With much determination, the third and final goal of the game was earned by Callum Gould. A rocket of a pass in the midfield gave Sam Heal space to run into-with a defender coming into him from behind, he looked to make a pass in the middle. He finds the former Mallet midfielder, who takes the ball in his stride and buries home his strike.

Play withheld with substitutions taking up the final 15 minutes of play. Graves chose to use his bench every few minutes to waste time and ensure the victory.

A second win on the bounce for the Robins ensured six points out of a possible six. After the first 5 mins of play, the momentum of the match was heading to the team in Somerset. FA Cup action back at Badgers Hill where Newquay travel from Cornwall to Frome.

Good start by the Robins and last night's result was impressive. The whole league has started with a bang with lots of goals and four teams with max' points (6) and most likely a few more after tonight's games. The competition looks interesting!

Hungerford lost 2-1 last night- Ollie got his first goal and Monksie was on the bench again..

For Gloucester, Emmett ( who was starved of game time with us last season), started and scored for them on Saturday.

At Tiverton,- Woody on the bench and no sign of Marcus Day.
