Frome Town 1 - 0 Hanwell Town

Updated: Mar 13

Frome Town battled to a hard-fought victory against Hanwell Town, in what would be a pivotal moment of the season.

Substitute Archie Ferris struck late on to seal the win for the hosts, which puts the Robins within three points of safety, whilst also boasting a game in hand.

It’s the first time Danny Greaves’ men have completed a league double this season. Whilst the performance may not have been the most polished, the result is ultimately all that matters.

Frome started brightly, creating an early chance as a cross in from the right caused havoc in the box, it was eventually cleared by Callum Woodcock, but not without punishment as he went down injured in the process, which ultimately halted the home side’s early momentum.

15 minutes later, Albie Hopkins played James Ollis down the left, before he fizzed a pass which Elliot Dugan latched onto, the only thing missing was the finish however as his effort whistled wide of the right-hand post.

The game remained a very open contest, and just moments after that Dugan chance, the Geordies launched a counter attack, that ended with a deflected effort looping onto the crossbar.

Just as it appeared the battle was beginning to ever so slightly settle down, Frome created another opening in the 32nd minute when Ollis was played through down the right. He cut onto his left foot, aiming for the bottom corner, only for Samuel Beast to get across and tip it wide.

At the other end, Kyle Phillips produced a phenomenal save nine minutes later, after a long free-kick was missed by everyone Phillips reacted brilliantly, somehow getting a fingertip on the ball to divert it wide of the post.

The second-half saw neither side threat one another, both teams looked devoid of ideas, and it appeared Frome were heading for another 0-0 which at this stage of the season wouldn’t help them.

That was until a game changing moment saw substitute’s Curtis Hutson and Ferris link up in the 85th minute, as the former slipped Ferris through one-on-one, he kept his composure and cooly slotted home, sending the home crowd into raptures.

From that point, Frome saw the game out comfortably to claim a vital three points in their battle for survival.

Next up Havant and Waterlooville will return to Badgers Hill for the second time this season, with home advantage once again, strong support like today, will be crucial in pushing the team forward.
