We thank our centre-back for those dedicated performances in Robins red!
The Club is sad to say farewell to Matt Wood. The defender who commuted from Devon last season will leave BA11 after nearly two and a half years to pursue his teaching career and more local opportunities.

Signed in March 2023 on a dual registration from Shepton Mallet, Woody made his debut against Bath City in the Somerset Cup. A month later, during his first taste of league football for the Robins, the composed defender headed in against Cinderford - always an aerial threat! - before the switch from the Western League was made permanent that summer.
While opportunities at the back were sometimes limited, the gifted centre-back finishes his stint with Robins having scored six times in 77 appearances over three seasons. There is no doubt his crowning moment came when he replaced the injured Pierce Mitchell after ten or so minutes in our play-off final in 23/24 against Bristol Manor Farm. Woody slotted in at the back that day with an ease and a coolness beyond his years and put in a flawless display, one that was key to sealing promotion.
Danny Greaves showed his appreciation to his centre-back: "Due to logistical challenges, Matt Wood has made the difficult decision to leave the club. Matt originally signed for the club whilst studying at Bath University, However, last season Matt was commuting from Exeter whilst carrying out his Teacher training back home. This showed unbelievable commitment and shows the mark of the man that he saw it through until the end of the season. However, that commute is not sustainable going forward.
"So I am sad to see Woody leave the club. He is a wonderful lad and an excellent young player who has developed so much and will continue to do so. He will be an outstanding defender in the next few years and whoever ends up picking him up is getting a very good player. That performance off the bench in the play-off final will stick with me for a long time. All the best, Woody!"
On his decision to move on, Matt said: "I’m incredibly grateful to everyone at the club for all their support and the opportunities I’ve had, since joining at the end of the 22/23 season. It’s been a brilliant experience and one I’ll always look back on fondly.
"It was a tough decision I have had to make to leave the club. However, due to job availability, I’ll be continuing my football closer to home next season.
"The fans have been unmatched, through the highs and lows, I always felt their love and appreciation. So thank you to all of you!
"I wish the club all the best for the season ahead. I’ll be keeping in touch and supporting you from afar."
We wish Woody all the best with his career! Good luck and we hope to see you down at Badgers Hill soon!
