Plymouth Parkway 0-4 Frome Town

Six in a row for the Robins ensured a perfect August and start to the campaign.

Frome travelled away from home for the third time in a row, where Bolitho Park hosted the Dodge, yet had just played Parkway four months prior. It was a side that Danny Greaves was fond of playing against, scoring 8 of our 39 league goals last season.

A regular eleven was picked that afternoon, with Callum Gould brought back into the side.

It was typical Frome fashion with domination starting from the get-go. Just eight minutes after the first goal of the afternoon, Zac Drew danced past the defence, a bit of luck off the pitch, bobbling the football back onto his feet, a cross into the box found the No. 6’s feet, and placed home his strike in the top right corner.

Straight from the restart, it could’ve been two; Hopkins pounced on the ball whilst Allan was out of the box. The forward went past the goalkeeper and took aim. Unfortunately, his effort stopped on the pitch, helping Plymouth and was cleared away from their defence.

However, just 12 minutes later, the second of the game was scored, but this time, it was rolled into the goal by the hosts' own player. Carlo Garside named the last player to put the ball in his own net.

The final goal of the half-game came from our poacher, David Duru. The Nigerian was placed through on goal and smashed his effort home into the left-side netting.

The first half was action-packed to say the least; Frome’s attack was clinical and was also very solid in the defensive department too.

Hopkins got his name on the scoresheet, making it four nil on the day for the Robins. Duru whipped a perfectly-placed cross into the box which was met by the No.11 and calmly nodded home his first of the afternoon.

Substitutions were made early in the second half in bulk. All five changes allowed were made with 20 minutes of the game remaining, with a little bit of luck needed to ensure no injuries happened for the remainder of the game.

This did come back to bite Greaves’ with Theo Llewellyn sent off just five minutes after maxing out the subs used. Hopkins had to play in a more defensive role to fill the boots of the midfielder, resulting in the main focus of the game being to keep the clean sheet and counter on the break if needed.

Full-time drew to a close, and it was another comprehensive victory for Frome, with just two goals conceded in the whole month. Somerset Cup action is next, with Badgers Hill hosting the first game of the month, Nailsea and Tickenham travelling down from West Bristol for both sides' first game in the Somerset Cup this campaign. Frome hoping to go that one step higher this time.
