Plymouth Parkway vs. Frome Town: FA Cup Preview and Ticket Info

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, looks forward to this weekend's visit to an all-too-familiar rival in the cup.

The Robins embark upon a whirlwind week of cup encounters commencing on Saturday with a tough task in the FA Cup at Southern League Premier Division Plymouth Parkway.

Bolitho Park is a familiar venue for Frome followers for they were there as recently as April in the penultimate fixture of last season and a repeat of that 3-0 success would make for a very merry journey home.

Confidence in the squad must be sky-high following victories in their opening FIVE matches; a feat not achieved since the Simon White days of a quarter of a century ago.

But beware an established Step Three Parkway side who will be itching to finally get one over the Scarlet Runners at the SEVENTH time of asking.

Since pipping Frome to the Division One South title in 2022, (so actually they did get one over us on that occasion…!), the Devon outfit are now in their FOURTH season at Premier Division level, finishing a comfortable 13th last term yet just four points above the drop zone.

They’ve not made the best of starts to the new campaign with FOUR points from their opening FIVE fixtures, a tally which could have been higher but for conceding late in both of their recent Bank Holiday weekend games (a 1-1 draw at ten-man Basingstoke followed by a 0-1 loss at home to Poole).

They did record an impressive 2-1 triumph over Gloucester City and perhaps will welcome a distraction from the rigours of a tough and demanding league with the thrills and spills of cup football.

And that’s exactly what we got at the same venue in a Second Qualifying Round tie just a couple of years ago, four goals shared in a scintillating second half leading to a memorable Badgers Hill replay, where a James Ollis double clinched it 2-1. but only after Kyle Phillips saved from the spot right at the death.

Over 20% of Frome’s meagre league goals tally came in the two games against Plymouth Parkway last season. They are a side the Robins clearly enjoy playing against, but will that run extend to being in the hat come Monday?

Squad Update

There are no new injury worries and the same squad chosen for Monday's victory at Westbury is expected.

Harris Feltham has had it confirmed that he broke three metatarsals in the opening game against Tavistock and will be on the sidelines for a few weeks, whilst Mike Baker continues his strengthening programme as he aims to get over his ongoing calf issues.

On the latest episode of the Dodge the Question podcast and after an impressive start to his Frome career, defender Harry Lucas, said: "After looking at the fixtures, you do say that we should be winning all five of the games so far. But I do think everyone's been working their socks off, everyone's been turning up to training, and giving it 100% all the time.

"When we're training well, that will always come into the game. Everyone's working hard for each other and team morale is good. That does help a lot and that's what I have liked about this club so far.

"Saturday will be a hard game - obviously they are a league above. But I think we'll give them a good game and hopefully can get the right result."
