Warminster Town vs. Frome Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, is back with a look-ahead at our pre-season opener.

After a summer of turmoil like no other, business on the pitch finally takes centre stage on Wednesday evening when the Scarlet Runners make the short journey across the border for their first pre-season friendly at Warminster Town.

Frome-reared Albie Hopkins is set to begin his second season with his hometown club.

The players will welcome a step up from training sessions and it's a much revamped squad with NINE new signings included in the mix with one goal in mind - a swift return to Southern League Premier Division status.

Western League Warminster finished 20th in Division One last term, picking up all but two of their 31 points at their Weymouth Street home and last hosted the Robins in a competitive encounter as long ago as Easter Monday 2002.

Before a sizeable travelling contingent, Frome thrilled their followers, many bedecked in fancy hats, with a 7-1 success on their way to a title-winning campaign.

Football's back... phew!

Squad Update

Ahead of a first test for his newly-assembled squad, Danny Greaves said: "Following two weeks of training, with seven sessions completed, Wednesday will see the team get their first matchday minutes as we travel to Warminster Town.

"The first game will see a squad of 21 travel to Warminster. 16 of the announced squad will feature, including new signings, Charlie Holliday, Harry Lucas, George Dowling, Theo Llewellyn, Theo Lynden, Dave Duru and Harris Feltham, who will all be looking to get their first minutes in a Frome shirt. Mike Baker is currently a doubt due to a slight tightness in his calf and may not be risked, whilst Sam Meakes is unavailable for a few weeks until he relocates to the South West.

"Of last season's retained players, Sam Teale is unavailable for the next week, whilst Kyle Phillips will also not feature for a short period as he continues his rehab after an injury picked up late last season. Likewise, Kynan Murchison is awaiting clearance to return to contact training.

"Four trialists who have featured in the first fortnight of training are also set to get the opportunity to impress."
