Bashley vs. Frome Town: Preview and Ticket Info

Steve Jupp, BA11's Club Historian, considers a tough away assignment in the New Forest.

Opening day mission accomplished, the Scarlet Runners hit the road on Tuesday evening with a trip to the New Forest and a route, along with Hampshire hosts, they will become very familiar with in the coming days.

Bashley away is the venue for an FA Trophy clash on August 23rd but, just a week-and-a-half before that, there is this prior engagement for Southern League points.

Decent results against the Bash have always been hard to come by with the only previous victory recorded at the Veho Community Stadium coming in a campaign, just over a decade ago, when the homesters were rock bottom and relegated.

Late goals have been a feature of their new season with an 81st minute strike clinching a 1-0 FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie against Wessex League East Cowes Victoria before salvaging a 2-2 draw at Falmouth on Saturday with the very last kick of the match.

The Robins' Southern League-era encounters against Bashley

Season Competition Home Away

2011-12             Prem                   D 1 – 1               D 1 – 1

2012-13             Prem                    D 1 – 1               L 1 – 2

2013-14             Prem                    L 1 – 2               W 4 – 0

2022-23            FA Trophy                                        L 1 – 4

     “                    Div 1 South        L 0 – 1               L 0 – 1

2023-24             Div 1 South        W 2 – 1              L 2 – 3

Bashley are embarking upon their fourth year back at Step Four following promotion from the Wessex League in 2022, achieving finishes of 7th, 15th, and 14th last term.

They are a side renowned for their battling qualities and resilience, and Danny Greaves’ charges will have to be on top of their game if they are to return with a result. Despite relegation last term, however, Frome developed a steeliness of their own on the road, losing just TWO of ELEVEN away fixtures so far in 2025.

This one definitely falls in the ‘hard to call’ category.

Squad Update

Mike Baker came through an early afternoon training session on Saturday and will be in contention for the fixture and feature in a strong squad. A couple of players are reported to have picked up knocks which will be assessed over the next 24 hours.

On the latest episode of the Dodge the Question podcast, Courtney Fong, the new Chair of the Club, said: "We want to be winning the league every single year. If you don't start with that, then why are you playing the game?!

"A winning mentality - we're going to do everything with excellence, on the pitch or off the pitch. So when you come to the bar, it's going to be the best bar in town, in the country! That's what we're striving for and we're going to do everything to win. We don't come here to play for draws!

"Hopefully, our revenue can grow so we can sustain that winning mentality. It would be foolish to think we can be a Football League club overnight. It will take time, but we should be striving for that and winning is how we get there."

The latest information on ticketing, which can be bought in advance or on the gate, is as follows:

Adults - £12

Concessions (OAPs and Students) - £8

Under 16s - £5
